Ubuntu 13.04 apt-get error : Too many levels of symbolic links

# tail -1 /etc/lsb-release ;uname -ri
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 13.04"
3.8.0-33-generic x86_64

When issuing apt-get upgrade, I saw the following errors.
I am not sure what is the trigger on this issue, because other Ubuntu13.04 boxes can do apt-get upgrade without problems.

Windows 7 : Windows Update : error = 0xC8000247 ( HP pavilion desktop )

Windows update service has not worked after replacing an old HDD with a new one due to HDD failure.I have installed Windows 7 Pro 32bit into the new HDD using the recovery media shipped with HP. ( I replaced 320GB HDD with 500GB HDD )

Windows update service is running , however I can’t apply patches.

The following is the WindowsUpdate.log when issuing updates with CLI

Do the update with CLI

C:\Windows\system32>wuauclt.exe /detectnow

When googling this issue , I've found that this might be corrected by installing "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver".
In my case , I could solve this issue after installing "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver" which I downloaded from HP site.
You will find the driver for HP desktop by just googling “HP pavilion model name driver”.

After installing the driver.

FreeNX error : Error is 112 'Address already in use'

When I try to connect to Ubuntu from FreeNX client ( Windows ) , I have faced the following error.

error message on NX client

Info: Connection with remote proxy completed.
Error: Call to bind failed for font TCP port 11001. Error is 112 'Address already in use'.

# apt-cache policy nxserver
nxserver:
 Installed: 3.5.0-11
 Candidate: 3.5.0-11
 Version table:
*** 3.5.0-11 0
       100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

# apt-cache policy nxnode
nxnode:
 Installed: 3.5.0-9
 Candidate: 3.5.0-9
 Version table:
*** 3.5.0-9 0
       100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I try to connect to two different Linux boxes from the same NX client at a time.
I can establish the first NX session , however I can’t establish the second NX session...

NX client (windows ) --- NX server ( Ubuntu 12.04 )  <- can establish :D
                    --- NX server ( Linux Mint 13 )  <- can’t establish :(

NX client seems to use the same TCP port number for both NX session.
To solve this , edit node.cfg on the NX server to avoid the NX client using same TCP port.

- on the Ubuntu 12.04 box ( NX server )
# egrep -i ^display /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg
DISPLAY_BASE=1000
DISPLAY_BASE + 3000

restart NX server
# /etc/init.d/nxserver restart

- on the Linux Mint 13 box ( NX server )
# egrep -i ^display /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg
DISPLAY_BASE=2000
DISPLAY_BASE + 4000

restart NX server
# /etc/init.d/nxserver restart

After editing node.cfg , I can connect to the two NX server boxes on the same NX client at a time.

Fedora 16 64bit : yum : Error: failure: repodata/filelists.xml.gz from google-chrome: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try

[root@fc16 ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora release 16 (Verne)
[root@fc16 ~]# uname -ri
3.3.0-4.fc16.x86_64 x86_64

When issuing “yum update” , I see the following error.
[root@fc16 ~]# LANG=C yum update -y
http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64/repodata/filelists.xml.gz: [Errno 12] Timeout on http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64/repodata/filelists.xml.gz: (28, '')

Error: failure: repodata/filelists.xml.gz from google-chrome: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

It seems that this is yum issue.
I have installed Fedora 16 64bit on my desktop and Fedora 16 32bit on my laptop.
This error occurs on Fedora 16 64bit ver.

To solve this :

issue “yum clean metadata”
[root@fc16 ~]# yum clean metadata
読み込んだプラグイン:langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
14 metadata files removed
4 sqlite files removed
0 metadata files removed

then issue “yum update” again.

small tips : Ubuntu : apt-get error : open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)

# apt-get update
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/

Just remove /var/lib/apt/lists/lock file.
# rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock

After removing the lock file , you will perform apt-get w/o the error.

In my case , this occurred after the network connectivity had been lost and I had aborted the apt-get command.
