How to install vmware tools on Solaris 10 VM running within ESXi

small tips.

Solaris 10 VM info

# uname -a SunOS unknown 5.10 Generic_147441-01 i86pc i386 i86pc

[ install vmware tools ]

on vSphere client , click VM -> Guest -> Install/Upgrade VMware tools.

CD-ROM which includes vmware-tools will be mounted to the directory /cdrom/vmware-tools

copy vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz

# cp /cdrom/vmwaretools/vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz /home/zzz

install vmware tools.

# gzip -d vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz # tar xvf vmware-solaris-tools.tar # cd vmware-tools-distrib/ # ./vmware-install.pl

reboot the Solaris VM

# init 6
